Real Number and its properties

Real Numbers All real numbers correspond to points on the number line and all points on the number line correspond to real numbers. All real numbers except zero are either positive or negative. Here are some properties of real numbers that are used frequently. If x , y , and z are real numbers, then (1) x + y = y + x and xy = yx . For example, 8 + 3 = 3 + 8 = 11, and (l7)(5) = (5)(l7) = 85. (2) ( x + y ) + z = x + ( y + z ) and ( xy ) z = x ( yz ). For example, (7 + 5) + 2 = 7 + (5 + 2) = 7 + (7) = 14, and (5 3)( 3) = (5)( 3 3) = (5)(3) = 15. (3) xy + xz = x ( y + z ). For example, 718(36) + 718(64) = 718(36 + 64) = 718(l00) = 71,800. (4) If x and y are both positive, then x + y and xy are positive. (5) If x and y are both negative, then x + y is negative and xy is positive. (6) If x is positive and y is negative, then xy is negative. (7) If xy = 0, then x = 0 or y = 0. For example, 3 y = 0 implies y = 0. (8) | x + y | ≤ | x | + | y |. For example, if x = 10 and y = 2, th...

Line of Symmetry

Image
Line of Symmetry This is a lesson on line symmetry for grades 3-4. It contains variety of exercises for the students. symmetry means that one shape becomes exactly like another. The line of symmetry is an imaginary line where you could fold an image and have both halves match exactly i.e.  if you placed a mirror along the symmetry line, you would see the other half of the figure reflected in the mirror. Exercise on line of Symmetry : Note : 1) Equilateral triangle has three line of symmetry while Isosceles triangle has only one line of symmetry.  2) Square has four line of symmetry while rectangle has two line of symmetry. Pl tell how many line of symmetry do  rhombus   and     parallelogram have

Polygons and Interior Angles

Image
Polygons and Interior Angles The sum of the  interior angles  of a  polygon  follows a specific pattern that depends on n, the number of sides that the polygon has. This sum is always 180° times 2 less than n (the number of sides). i.e  (n - 2) x 180 = Sum of Interior Angles of a Polygon Quadrilateral has four sides, the sum of its interior angles is (4 - 2)180 = 2(180) = 360°. Alternatively, note that a quadrilateral can be cut into two triangles by a lineconnecting opposite corners. Thus, the sum of the interior angles of Quadrilateral = 2(180) = 360°. Hexagon has six sides, the sum of its interior angles is (6 - 2)180 = 4(180) = 720°.Alternatively, note that a hexagon can be cut into four triangles by three lines connecting corners. Thus, the sum of the interior angles of Hexagon = 4(180) = 720°.

Algebra : Maths For kid Solution 1)   4 y + 4 y + 4 y + 4 y = 4 x 4 y = 4 y+1  Similarly 3 y + 3 y + 3 y = 3 y+1 (4 y + 4 y + 4 y + 4 y )( 3 y + 3 y + 3 y )= (4 y+1 )( 3 y+1 )= 12 y+1 Solution 2)    4 a   + 4 a+1 = 5 4 a                     4 a+2 -176 = 16 (4 a ) -176                     16 (4 a ) -176 = 5 4 a                     11 4 a  = 176                     4 a  = 16                     a = 2

PEMDAS Overview and explanation

PEMDAS Overview When you simplify a maths expression, don’t automatically perform operations from left to right, even though that’s how you read English or HIndi. Instead, follow PEMDAS: Parentheses Do P first Exponents Then E Multiplication  or Division Then either M or D Addition or Subtraction Then either A or S For 3 + 2 x 4, you do the M first (multiply 2 and 4), then the A (add 3 to the result). 3 + 2 x 4 = 3 + 8 = 11 If you want to force the addition to go first, add parentheses. P always goes first: (3 + 2) x 4 =5 x 4 = 20 Multiplication and Division are at the same level of importance in PEMDAS , because any Multiplication can be expressed as a Division, and vice versa. In a sense, Multiplication and Division are two sides of the same coin. Likewise, Addition and Subtraction are at the same level of importance. Any Addition can be expressed as a Subtraction, and vice versa. If you have two operations of equal importance, do them left to right. ...
