Maths Problem on Age

Question 1) The sum of the age of a mother and her daughter is 50 years . Also 4 years ago , the mothers age was 6 times the age of the daughter. What are the present age of the mother and daughter?




Answer :  Let mother present age X and daughter age is Y
                    X + Y = 50    --------------1
                       X-4  = 6 ( Y -4)
                        6Y - X = 20 -----------------2
                 adding 1 and 2
                   7Y = 70
         So daughter present age 10 and mother age is 40.

                                                  Total + Number of year ago ( Times -1 )
Daughter Age = -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
                                                                         Times + 1

Question : The ratio of the age of the father and son at present is 4 : 1 , and before 4 years the ratio was 6:1 . What is the present age of Father?

Answer : 40 years

Question :  The age of two persons differ by 20years . If 5 years ago , the ratio of their age is 5: 1 then                    what is the present age of both persons

Answer 10 and 30

Question :  Three years earlier the father was 7 times as old as his son . After three years the father age would be four times that of his son. What is the present age of the son ?


                       Year Earlier ( Times earlier - 1 ) + Year After ( Times after -1 )
Son Age =--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
                                                  Times earlier - Times After

                    3 ( 7-1) + 3 ( 4-1)
Son Age =---------------------------------------------------= 9 years

                            7-4



Father = 45 years
