Maths Puzzle : Mensuration

Question : If surface area of large cube is four times of smaller cube then how many smaller cubes can be formed from the material obtained by melting a larger cube.

Solution : Let larger cube side is X and and smaller cube is Y

then Square of (X/Y) = 4 or X/Y = 2

Cube of ( X/Y) = 8 so eight smaller cube can be formed

Question : The sides of triangles are in ratio of 1/4 : 1/3 : 1/2 . If the perimeter of triangle is  26 cm then find the length of sides ?

  Solution : 1/4 : 1/3 : 1:2 can be written as   3 : 4 : 6
 so 26 = A ( 3 + 4 + 6 )
A = 2
length of sides are  6 , 8 and 12 cm

Question : Circle and a square have the same perimeter. If the area of the square is 121 then what is the area of the circle ?

Answer :    area of square = 121 , so side of square = 11
                      perimeter of circle = perimeter of square = 44
      radius of circle = 7
   Area of circle = 154
